Learning + mentoring + innovations = leadership success

That’s the approach we’ve taken at CS For Doors and the company couldn’t be happier with the results of its recent NZQA Level 3 Leadership journey.

“The pride the management team felt when the learners presented their projects to us was immense,” says HR Manager Victoria Piggott.

When we sat down with Victoria and Operations Manager Mike Buntain, earlier in the year, they had a clear idea of what they wanted the training to achieve for their team. Goals included a solution-focused approach, understanding diverse points of view and having the courage to challenge the status quo.

Fast forward eight months and the management team watched their leadership graduates present innovation projects that do more than challenge the status quo – they are saving and making the New Zealand cavity slider manufacturer money, and driving efficiency.

Good outcomes

We asked Victoria what the best outcome has been:

“We have seen the confidence of each learner grow and have seen physical and procedural changes across the business as a result of them having the confidence to collaborate and the skills to set change in motion due to their Upskills training. “

The data tells the same story.

    • 85% of participants strongly agreed that their understanding of themselves and their leadership had improved
    • When asked how helpful they found the course overall, participants were split between very helpful and extremely helpful (57% and 43% respectively)
    • 100% of the group have achieved their NZQA Level 3 Certificate in Business (Team Leadership)

Upskills Facilitator Shelly Pathak says part of the reason the learning approach works is that it starts with building relationships and trust.

“People have to be open to sharing mistakes to grow and want to put into practice the theory and models that we talk about at the workshops.  We give people the opportunity  to support and push one another out of their comfort zones knowing that their colleagues have their back and that gives them the confidence to take leadership to the next level.”

Participant feedback

“I am now more confident in working with teams, I have a better understanding of my own styles as well as a more conscious understanding of others and how they may respond.”

“I am able to delegate to members of my team much more efficiently now.”

“I’ve grown in confidence talking to my team and dealing with conflict.”
